Agreed, I have posted IP's tracerts, speeds etc in here for my servers and still my gbit runs extemely slowly with no reply or explanation from yourself.

My speed FROM server ->

184 KB/S

From anther FTP Server ->

2.09 MB/s

My Isp is 20MBIT, so there is no reason my end that i should be getting terrible speeds from OVH,

My question is:

Have i been limited? Are you throttling my bandwidth your side? Have you put a cap on my speed?

I have like, 4 Servers from OVH, kimsurf servers are FINE, but the OVH GIGE server is SLOW.

I phoned yesterday on your contact number and was told to leave these information..

I await to hear from you ASOON As possible, i hope !

Switch: sw.110.245/32
Bandwidth: 1000 Mbps
BP Type: SLA

Do You require, any more information ?

Another day, still more speed problems.
I'm almost tempted to call OVH, ask to speak to management and give them a forum link to their OWN forums.

As was said previously about getting angry... That sums me up perfectly, as I also only get angry/pissed off when i care, or am passionate about something.

Oles: Whats the progress if any? =)

Another traceroute for my gbit server Oles. I am still suffering with speeds on all 10 of my boxes. Although there are variations in speed but none are good, I can get speeds up by using many threads but still not anywhere near what it used to be.

I am more than willing to provide any info you need Oles as I like many others have got used to your great speeds and service. All my IPs are posted further back in this forum.

Please keep us updated as it is clear to all that something is not right and like most I feel that no progress is being made. I am more than willing, as I said, to help out with test files or anything else you need to resolve this problem.

Please keep OVH as the most popular provider as like others I would prefer not to move all servers back to another.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Edit: Dont ask me why this should be but this kimi and only this one is flying at 50mbit on the last test I did to a key machine. All others remain bad. 91.121.167.151

ok I also am fed up with the download speeds of my server, been like it now over 2 weeks here is some info :-

1st is downloading a 40mb test file via ftp

[R] 227 Entering Passive Mode (91,121,151,229,222,119).
[R] Opening data connection IP: 91.121.151.229 PORT: 56951

Transfer queue completed
Transferred 1 file totaling 40.74 MB in 4 minutes 3 seconds (171.7 KB/s)

Now is uploading the same file back too the server via FTP

[R] 227 Entering Passive Mode (91,121,151,229,216,188).
[R] Opening data connection IP: 91.121.151.229 PORT: 55484

Transferred 1 file totaling 40.74 MB in 2 minutes 50 seconds (245.9 KB/s)

As you can see I can upload to my server faster than I can download from it lol

Well it wont mean more bandwidth lol- everyone will still be stuck @ 80-250k/s regardless of people leaving :P

The point I think in reality is- people are becoming frustrated and angry because they like being with OVH, they dont want to leave OVH.Otherwise they wouldnt post but just leave in silence. You dont tend to get angry about something you dont care about.

Oles, I've posted the required information here - however from memory seeing as you get it via email you wont get the edit's I made (which list the speeds and the traceroutes). If you wish I can email you over the information directly which was included in the post.

At the people yelling and swearing - having worked (and still working to some degree) in customer service's at an ISP doing so will not get you anywhere. While I agree the speeds are pretty bad at the moment no ammount of swearing, yelling or otherwise being rude is going to resolve the issue.

Oles, the direct link to my post is: http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8645&postcount=24 - feel free to mail me directly via my profiles email, will be happy to help where i can/give ssh access to one or two of my home machines for you to test.

This is getting tiring - with no signs of resolution. Its discussed in multiple threads and nothings changing. As a point of fact - I havnt been able to download from ANY ovh server over 250k/s which changes daily from 80k/s to 250k/s the average from the past week being about 130k/s- (pre-problems arose , I would get 450k/s minimum).

Ive tested on 9 different OVH servers ranging from pros, kimis and ovh gbits (seeing 127k/s coming from an idle OVH gbit almost made me cry). I have freinds with different isps - who all have EXACTLY the same problems/speeds - and Im facing complaint after complaint about how email attachements from my mails server take so long to download/how it takes forever to download the database backups from my ftp etc etc. Hell if I log into my own ftp or others- theres now a half second delay while it connects, listing directories takes...seconds now not milliseconds and this is ONLY with OVH - all other countrys around the world are fine , jeez I can download from america faster than just across the pond in france. this is becoming a joke.

Im seriously considering dropping my server and recommending to clients they drop theirs too and take them to keyweb or similar - at least they have excellent routing and a great quality of service. But heres the thing.I dont WANT to leave OVH, I dont want to have to move all my stuff and all clients stuff from their servers to a new host - itll take me weeks to do, all work that will be largely unpaid as my clients came to OVH on my recommendation. Sucks to be me I guess .

Ill post a big bunch of speedtests and traceroutes later on tonight when Im less depressed about all this - just so OVH cant shout "no info...your a liar"..yeah right, me and 90% of the uk who use ovh in any way MUST be liars...Ive been with OVH for some time and to be honest- Ive loved the value my server gave me and Ive loved the quality of service till now . Come on OVH - find and fix this , dont let customers who value YOU and your services leave in frustration.

please answser here.
Sorry, no.

I draw the line where I am required to publicly display information because you cannot be bothered to check your email.

The only information you should need is in my first post of this thread, as the problem clearly exists within your network. The reason you would need my home IP address and internal ISP hops in order to fix a problem within OVH is beyond me...

If these speed issues are not sorted out within the next few weeks I am moving to a better host.

Well, I thought i was going to be able to grace this thread/forum with some good news... It appears i spoke to soon.

A few hours ago i was elated to see my FTP transfers (on a single thread as it SHOULD be, no screwing around with 6 bloody transfers!) hit a nice steady 720KB/sec, I shared this experience with someone on the forum just to make sure i wasn't halluicinating!

But alas I spoke and celebrated too soon;
Current Downstream: 139.60 KBytes/s

I don't understand. do you have a problem or not ? no more ? please
give me your IP. I have to understand what you are talking about.
it's too easy to send en email with "it doesn't work" and 1 hour
after "it works now" then leave me with no possibility to check what
is/was/will be wrong !

With 10 boxes I hope you might try to resolve some of the speed issues for me and other users. PLEASE.

I am getting speeds of 300kbs to and from other servers, (leaseweb) and (keymachine) and home,(UK) and the speeds between them is also now slower than it ever was. Sometimes only 500kkbs

Speeds to my FDC box (US) is down to 65kbs

This has to be a problem at the OVH end as the routing for all these different boxes is totally different. Surely it is not everyone elses fault !!!!

If you want me to create test files for you on the boxes Oles I will but I am not inventing these poor speeds.

Oles,
I'm not complaining about the service and I'm not asking for a resolution. I clearly posted that I am using a 2mbit service and -when- I had virgin media it seemed slow.

I realise English is not your primary language so I apologise if i mislead or confuse you. I was adding my two cents to the situation.

Please Oles, stop being an ASS and READ THE POST. I gave you the information you asked for, are you blind? I've tried to be nice to you for a long time but my patience just ran out, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

I don't understand. do you have a problem or not ? no more ? please
give me your IP. I have to understand what you are talking about.
it's too easy to send en email with "it doesn't work" and 1 hour
after "it works now" then leave me with no possibility to check what
is/was/will be wrong !

It looks to me like there is limiting going down look at all those trends.

I can download at 160-190KB/s over a 2mbit connection from my ovh box, but at those speeds it's hardly much of a test.

When I had my virgin media connection things really where slow from OVH though, even using multiple threads, but I believe that to be part ovh's fault and part virgin's. Both limit more than they are willing to openly admit to but when you meet one of the virgin tech's they have a story to tell about what goes on behind company doors.

Andy

OK Oles, here are my results. How can you explain it? 2000KB/s solid from all servers from my own OVH server? Maxing out my own broadband to 10Mbps is fair enough, its not near 2000KB/s but why do every file I download on my OVH server max out at 2000KB/s when the server is being used for NOTHING else? There are limits going on somewhere, otherwise there wouldn't be this trend of 2000KB/s on each download, would there?

Please, Oles, if you're limiting us, tell us. We would rather be told the truth than told lies and then us having to interrogate you to find the truth. I'm fine with 2000KB/s (20Mbps), I don't use even 1/4 of that most of the time, but don't advertise 100Mbps when you know you can't/won't give it to us!

If you truly aren't limiting then accept my sincere apology. I want to help everyone get their speed issues solved but there are so many of them it still makes me wonder if there are limits somewhere.

no. there is none. if you are in SLA mode, you have no problems.
now, maybe there is some new problems. you give no tech information
to help me. except daying that "ovh is bad". if you want only talk
please start an another thread and talk there. and let the customers
that want to help me to resolv this problem to exchange with me without
any bugs. thanks in advance.
I know you are busy trying to resolve what seems to be system wide slow speeds but could you please up date us regularly so we know we are being looked after and that our speeds are likely to return soon, thank you.

Just found this thread, and i thought everything would be resolved... when from what i can see (translation could be whacked, ofcourse) it seems theres some admission of throttling, choking etc on a LOT of hosts/IP ranges... but to have (as said previously) 10 different box all being screwed... I'm beginning to become increasingly worried, and wondering when the compensation claims will start, this is unforgiveable on so many levels

I trused in OVH, I'm pretty much just wasting away my contracted rent right now because this is NOT what i and others are paying for AT ALL

Theres already such a wealth of information, If requested i shall do tracert's etc again, as well as HTTP, FTP transfers

let's check it.

can you give me ssh's access to your dedicated server and
give me the bash command to start the "bad upload". so I
will be able to see this bad upload and check it in the
real time why it's bad.

My servers both kimsuffi and eg are all slow. My gbit is 94.23.0.154. My other servers include these ips. Yes all 10 servers in total are crawling !!!

91.121.175.67
91.121.122.88
91.121.117.86

Kimis

213.186.59.120
213.251.167.22
91.121.102.147
91.121.151.127
91.121.166.9
91.121.167.15

All these servers are in SLA so should fly like they always used to Oles. I can not believe something has not changed as all are suffering and as you can see I have multple server types and IP's are in various ranges.

We have just added the new classe of IP in the IP that are not limited. These are IP of servers hosted in the datacentre Roubaix 2.

94.23.0.0/16
Not sure how that helps considering that my IPs are in the 91.121.0.0/16 range...?

Wait, so your saying you do limit IP's then?

I'm not on the kimsufi package for my main server and it's getting shocking speeds.

ns363379 is the machine, 78.86.181.198 is (one of) my home IP's. This is from a Linux box directly connected to my router.

Same deal with FTP, single thread rarely if ever get's above 200kbyte/sec (from other sites I can download ~1.8Mbyte/sec)

Also get realllly slow speeds on your FTP site.

Email me if you want, I can give you shell access to one of my Linux boxes for you to test from. (It's in my forum profile)

Currently waiting for the speed tests to finish over ftp, will post them after they are done....

if you give the traceroute, I will be able to check the problem.
if you ask me to answser to this question, checking the crystal
ball, I won't be able to do it. I'm not a magician.

so, first
- the dedicated's server IP
- traceroute in/out
- are you in SLA or noSLA mode ?

With my OVH server i get about 11.2MB/s from the OVH FTP and the Kimsufi FTP and about 6.5MB/s from the Dutch server. So no problems there.
When i try a 16MBit cable connection i get 2000kb/s from the OVH and the Kimsufi FTP and about 1600kb/s from the Dutch FTP (while im in Holland). So no problems there either.
From University Twente i also get 2000kb/s.
And when i try a 8MBit ADSL connection i get full 870kb/s from all FTP servers. So it all looks good to me.

Here is a 100MB file from Uni Twente. Might be a faster server then the other Dutch one. I always use that to check my connection speed. I also get +/-11.2MB/s with my OVH server from that FTP server.

p.s. I'm using windows on my server and just used IE to download the test files...

you are talking about something that you don't know, you imagine and
you say somthing that it's not true.

the traceroute ? in/out then I check. please don't remove any informations
from the traceroute. I need all (your home's IP and your sd's IP).
If this is so then why are more and more OVH customers beginning to have speed problems? Why can't you explain it? Its your network you should know what the problem is. It can't be the 10's of ISP's out there having the problems all at the same time with just OVH servers can it? Coincidences don't happen like that, and that is why it can only be an OVH problem, and it only started majorly when the new bandwidth SLA's were proposed, surely that is the coincidence we should be looking at here?

They're clearly doing something somewhere, probably due to the stupid new SLA rules they have put in place affecting some routers and not others...

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Traceroutes would also be quite helpful too, because I have a feeling Virgin treats routes to OVH differently than the majority of UK ISPs.

My slow speeds to OVH go through sw1.tc.lon.ovh.net and 20g.rbx-2-6k.routers.ovh.net. It would be interesting to find out whether when you connect (to ftp.ovh.net specifically) you are also routed through these servers.

Cheers

On my 10Mbps VM Cable
OVH's own FTP server (100MB test file) - 400KB/s
118's Kimsufi in Roubaix (50MB test file) - 1200KB/s MAXED OUT
Other provider in Holland (100MB test file) - 1200KB/s MAXED OUT

On my OVH dedi 100Mbps Large++
OVH's own FTP server (100MB test file) - 2000KB/s
118's Kimsufi in Roubaix (50MB test file) - 2000KB/s
Other provider in Holland (100MB test file) - 2000KB/s

Seems to be a trend here... 2000KB/s on ALL the FTP links? Its simply not right and there must be some form of traffic shaping going on.

Speed test

Speedtest seems fine, but thats based on HTTP not FTP.

OVH, why are you limiting FTP transfer speeds? This is not included in any part of anyones contract and I demand an explanation. You can't deny you're not doing something now because 3 links don't lie, and one of them is your own.

Have to disagree with that comment, i was having speed issues on my 20MB VMedia connection and Oles was indeed extremely helpful and informative.

Whatever he/VM actually did rectified the problem, and im now back at 20mb speeds with one thread from OVH servers.

At the moment im traffic shaped (5mb) but here are the results.

OVH's own FTP server (100MB test file) - Maxed out 580kB/s
118's Kimsufi in Roubaix (50MB test file) - Maxed out 580kB/s
Other provider in Holland (100MB test file) slower than OVH 448kB/s

I will also conduct the speedtests when back to 20mb.

I have compiled some information that may help us narrow down where the speed problems are occurring, as OVH don't seem bothered. It might be helpful if everyone could run the same tests and post their results. I have downloaded four speed test files from several different servers:

  1. OVH's own FTP server (100MB test file)
  2. My RPS in Roubaix (100MB test file)
  3. 118's Kimsufi in Roubaix (50MB test file)
  4. Other provider in Holland (100MB test file)

Here are the results:
  • OVH's FTP : SLOW (147kB/s)
  • My RPS : SLOW (183kB/s)
  • Kimsufi : FAST (542kB/s ~ full speed)
  • .NL FTP : FAST (544kB/s ~ full speed)

Tests were done using a single thread via wget on a linux box that is directly connected to my broadband connection, ruling out any traffic on my LAN. I have very low contention on my (business) broadband connection, so the possibility of it being local congestion at my ISP is almost zero. (I have an LLU ADSL ISP; not using Virgin Media's network.) Yes, this is how I spend my free time...

Also OVH, innovation is only worthwhile if you can provide a reliable service. Please focus less on enticing new customers with SSDs and more on retaining your old ones...
