Ever heard of a wonderful little thing called overheads?

100Mb/s has a theoretical max of 12.5MB/s... but in reality you will never see much more than 11MB/s

Because 100mbit translates to roughly 10MB/s download, not 100.

To reach 100MB/s download you'd require a 1000mbit (1 gigabit) server, in theory.

(beta students; spare me your calculations )

hi wheres the best site to get a speed test for my server?
i have remote desktop so i can test it from there

i have tried downloading from ftp://ftp.ovh.net/test.bin and it doesnt go higher than 10mb a sec and whats really annoying is that when its downloading at 10mb a sec the servers ping goes high and it goes a bit laggy (inc apps i host from it). Its like 10mb is the max download speed..
can someone tell me why i cant exceed 10mb a sec download speed? i thought it was supposed to be 100mbps? ive seen all this sla stuff but its just confusing

i just hope the upload speed isnt as bad..

thanks, servers a standard kimsufi
