Check in your OVH manager.

By default OVH restrict port 6667 but you can put the "chat.freenode.org" as an exception using the manager.

Something like "Services > IRC Filter" to get to it..

Unblock the port in the manager under IRC. Its blocked by default to avoid scanning and hacking etc etc.

Hi,

I am a bit new to the world of dedicated servers so I am hoping to get a bit of advice.

I am trying to connect to an irc server from my box (chat.freenode.net), I think I should be able to telnet on port 6667 but I don't seem to be able to, just hangs at "Trying..."

host chat.freenode.net
chat.freenode.net has address 64.161.254.20
chat.freenode.net has address 82.96.64.4
chat.freenode.net has address 89.16.176.16
chat.freenode.net has address 130.239.18.172
chat.freenode.net has address 140.211.166.3
chat.freenode.net has address 140.211.166.4
chat.freenode.net has address 163.25.104.18
chat.freenode.net has address 204.11.244.21
chat.freenode.net has address 207.158.1.150
chat.freenode.net has address 209.177.146.34
chat.freenode.net has address 213.92.8.4
chat.freenode.net has address 213.219.249.66
chat.freenode.net has address 216.155.130.130
chat.freenode.net has address 216.165.191.52

I can ping the servers but can't connect using irssi or telnet as i said.

I don't think I have anything blocking connections...

iptables --list
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

I am really scratching my head now, anyone got any ideas ?.

Regards.
