RAID0 setup on HG Biturbo dedicated server

It seems my RAID-0 has been setup correctly, right ?

Code:
rescue:~# tw_cli info c0

Unit UnitType Status %Cmpl Stripe Size(GB) Cache AVerify IgnECC
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
u0 RAID-0 OK - 64K 1397.27 ON - -

Port Status Unit Size Blocks Serial
---------------------------------------------------------------
p0 OK u0 698.63 GB 1465149168 GTF200P8GAJH2F
p1 OK u0 698.63 GB 1465149168 GTF200P8GAJ6GF

rescue:~# mpt-status
ioctl: No such device
rescue:~#
But why on the status check i get no such device . . . ?

Anything wrong here ?

no you can't change it without BIOS access.

I told you: you can't do RAID-0 with LSI without KVM !
Why you don't care about the help I gave you ?
You never mentioned I should use KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse as I assume). But you did mention I can change it without BIOS access:

what are you try to get ? RAID-0 ? with 2x750Gb ?
Let's not catch each other's words, it does not lead us anywhere. I found xKVM which allows hardware virtualization:
In the vKVM, the server is launched in a virtual environment, the hardware is then virtual.
Anyway, I gave it a try and ran my server in this mode. After 20 minutes fighting with French keyboard (fantastic idea not to allow switch keyboard layout btw, try to type lowercase 'm' or digits on uk keyboard) I still can't access anything that allows me to manage RAID. When I ran it I don't have access to LSI RAID hardware:

But it should look like that (this is running without virtualization, I can't change RAID as this is system disk):

Unless I'm missing something it is not possible to change to RAID0. I tried:
- tw_cli
- reinstallation of system wizard from manager
- windows management tools on real machine and xKVM

I never ignored anyone who tried to help me and tried everything that was suggested. oles@ovh.net, unfortunately, it looks like your suggestions are not valid or you forgot to post important detail.

I don't have RAID0 option there. UK support claims I should do it with tw_cli (which is obviously wrong). Look at this:

------------------------

------------------------

I have doubts if it possible at all even we were assured it is (with tw_cli!)?

BTW OVH UK support is not only NOT BEING HELPFUL but they seem to be incompetent. Their hard drive speed test is ... "downloading file from FTP" (ftp://ftp.ovh.net/test.bin). We want to buy servers for more than £15000 and pay year up front and no-one is there to help us out with simple things. This is new situation for us.

went into service, selected reinstall/change os
selected what o/s so in my case
Linux Operating System
Basic distribution
then Operating system Debian 4.0 (Etch) 32 bit and at the bottom i select english

then accept
then in the next bit select other and have raid 0/1
and then accept

theres a bit where u have 3 options.. the bottom one i tick and make sure raid 0/1 is selected...did u see that

Thanks for answer. I follow your steps but don't have option to change RAID type (or don't know where it is). Here's what I've done:
1) In management panel I clicked Services -> Netboot and picked "rescue pro"
2) I clicked Services -> Reinstall/Change OS
3) 1st step: "Linux operating system" -> "Basic distribution" -> "Operating system Debian 4.0 (etch)" -> "32 bits" (I also tried 64 - the same) and picked "English" as language
4) I had three options for debian40: (a) "Default layout of partitions for distributions debian40", (b) "The same layout of partitions as before", (c) "Other layout of partitions", I chose option (c)
5) Now I got "You remain with 146000 MB available disk space.". I created first partition 500MB and then SWAP (24GB, my RAM is 12GB) and then tried to create third partition with RAID0 but ... I don't have RAID selection anywhere.

Basically I have this options:
i) Partition number (can't edit)
ii) File system:can select "ext3" or "reiserfs"
iii) mountpoint: can put any mountpoint
iv) size: I can put any amount of MB here
and
v) "add this partition"
vi) "launch the reinstall"

Code:
Type File system Mountpoint RAID Size
1 primary ext3 / - 500 MB [Delete]
2 primary swap none - 24000 MB [Delete]
3 primary ext3 /home - 121500 MB [Delete]
FYI I need RAID0 in Windows, you descibed Linux. I thought if I know how to set it up on Linux (I'm using Debian on couple servers) I think I can handle Windows.

Either I don't know how to switch to RAID0 either this option is not available in my services. Anything obvious I'm doing wrong and/or missing?

ok what i did was.....
go into manager
select ur server
select services
not sure if this is needed or not but i click on net boot..then selected rescue pro which is under netboot select
i then rebooted the server which is in services
once i got my email i then

went into service, selected reinstall/change os
selected what o/s so in my case
Linux Operating System
Basic distribution
then Operating system Debian 4.0 (Etch) 32 bit and at the bottom i select english

then accept
then in the next bitselect other and have raid 0/1
and then accept

ok this is the bit now....

change size of the partion which is allready in front of u to say 500
then in partition 2 under file system swap, now in the size for that partition u need to enter 2 x the amount of ram u have so in my case, my server has 4 gigs so i put 8000 in there
click accept

now partition 3
change raid to 0
mount point = call it /home (or whatever u want)
click add partition

youll see something like this

1 primary ext3 / 1 500 MB [Delete]
2 primary swap none 1 8000 MB [Delete]
3 primary ext3 /home 0 2 x 741500 MB [Delete]

then click launch the reinstall

the reason why i was getting issues was because i didnt put double to amount of space in for the swap partition which is needed for some reason..not sure

so remember do say
500 for first
8000 and select swap for second (double your ram size)
last make sure raid 0 selected and call it say /home

I'm trying to get RAID0 2x147GB (SCSI) but I'm not sure what tool to use. I thought I should use tw_cli (as intructed before purchase), I can't find LSI's "MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM)" and I'm a little stuck at the moment. Can you give me any hints what tool to use that'll be great!

I'm aware about security and losing all data after reconfiguring machine. I'll also need Win2003 license (which I already rent from you for 3mths).

Your server SP Bestof is not hardware raided... you need to use the re-install/re-image feature to change your software raid configuration in the ovh manager....if you change raid config in that method you will loose the data on the server...

As oles said... it is LSI raid controller not 3ware...so tw_cli would be irrelevant... you need to use the LSI (megaraid) cli... which I believe is megacli

Thanks for this info. mpt-status checks my drives correctly:

Code:
rescue:/sbin# mpt-status
ioc0 vol_id 0 type IM, 2 phy, 135 GB, state OPTIMAL, flags ENABLED
ioc0 phy 1 scsi_id 2 SEAGATE ST3146855SS 0002, 136 GB, state ONLINE, flags NONE
ioc0 phy 0 scsi_id 1 SEAGATE ST3146855SS 0002, 136 GB, state ONLINE, flags NONE
rescue:/sbin#
But mpt-status can't do anything with my matrix as far as I can see.

I understand I can't use suggested by support "tw_cli" as server has different matrix controller (LSI). Any hint what tool should I use to reconfigure my RAID1 to RAID0 then?

sebbie:

You may not have a 3ware controller..... if you can boot from the hard drive (assuming linux)... look at the boot log in /var/log/messages You should see the driver being used..and therefore what card....

For instance, if you had a 3ware... it would show in the log as something like:

3ware 9000 Storage Controller device driver for Linux v2.26.02.011

Then select netboot(rescue pro)then add your email and the logins will sent to ur email within 5minutes.
Then go back to your manager and reboot your machine.

Then login into your server via ssh,id use putty.
enter root and the password they just sent u via email.
Then add this command.

#tw_cli info c0

you will then see smthing like thiss

Hi

Thanks for response. My problem is: I can't execute any tw_cli command:

Code:
rescue:~# tw_cli info c0

Error: (CLI:003) Specified controller does not exist.

rescue:~#
my server is in rescue mode. It keeps saying either "Controll does not exist" or "Controller not found". Any ideas why?
