OVH offers(free of charge) a Xubuntu Desktop distribution, which gives you x2go connection(similar to RDP) out of the box. Xubuntu = Ubuntu with Xfce. That would fit your needs. The easiest way to transfer the files is using SSH/SFTP.

What OS to use (Ubuntu, right?)
How to open the exe files with WINE.
And how to transfer them easily.
(EDIT: And how to locate the files, in wine.)
