Yes, I believe you are right. I have been looking for configuration changes possible in RocketChat and have not found any yet, not that there isn't a well hidden option somewhere,
Also, the OS regional settings is a good idea too, I shall investigate those,

Thank you again,

John

Does that happens with every website? The preview is surely generated on the server, so it's likely to happen that some websites may show you their french version, as your server has a french IP. On such case, the only alternative would be to host it elsewhere, with an IP which will be detected by those sites as a place with your preferred language.

Another option, but I'm not really sure about it, is that RocketChat may have a configuration option, so it would send the "Accept-Language" header with your preferred language, as sites may(or should) prefer that value on top of the IP geolocation data. You can also try changing your OS regional settings, because, if RocketChat does not supports changing that, it could be silently taking your system's configuration to use it in the "Accept-Language" header.

So, there's a reasonable chance you will get that solved if you move your services to CA; but it's also probable, and surely worth the try, to test some configuration changes before doing that.

If your VPS is running Linux, you have an easy option, which is performing a full filesystem transfer from one server to another, both running in rescue system, using rsync, and installing grub from inside chroot at last.

For both Windows & Linux, you can also try performing a full disk transfer(at block level) from the rescue system; this will only work if both VPS are the same model.

There may be other specific backup procedures depending on what you are using your VPS for.
Thank you for that advice. I know nothing of rsync etc so I shall read up on that. Yes, I did realise that it is Canada and not the US,

The reason I am thinking of changing the country is that when I paste a link into my chatroom hosted on the VPS it displays a preview of the link in French. There may be another setting I can change to alter that but I haven't found it yet...

My current VPS is just a Cloud VPS SSD1. I may look into something a bit more powerful if/when my site gets a little bigger. I do need to look into the snapshot/backup options first. I am only running a small Wordpress site and an instance of MongoDB with RocketChat, although I am sure I shall find other things to install

Thank you massively for your advice, it has made things a bit clearer,

Hi,

I have a currently running VPS in the France region, is it possible t transfer it to the USA region?

If not, and I have to cancel and re-order a VPS in the USA, is there a way to backup my current VPS and restore it to a new VPS that I order?

Thank you in advance for your help.
