Default partition layout: rationale?

It is a bit crazy, I never took much notice until I ran out of disk space. You can choose at install time and I have successfully resized a live system.

I'm wondering what the rationale is behind the default partition layout (5 gb for /, rest for /home).
I'd rather have everything in / to avoid running out of free space for stuff like MySQL and logs.
Could anyone tell me why OVH chose what they chose?
