After managing to find out how to register some (its not obvious OVH, just so you know...) I registered a couple, but they don't work yet. Obviously they don't have enough pre-registrations yet

At least I got one I wanted, nice and short! My initials! I couldn't have one any shorter than 3 letters though, but I guess thats the norm when it comes to domain names. I also couldn't have andy.ovh, someone beat me to it!

Our record for the .ovh has not yet been submitted to ICANN. They
do not yet know how they will handle the release.
But of course we follow the evolution of the procedures. In the meantime, you

on our site. If you change your DNS servers to add
.ovh delegation on our DNS servers, your .ovh domain names will
begin to function ... Then the day our dossier is accepted

One week after .tel. OVH proposes a new extension:

.ovh

You can now register my-company.ovh or holidays.ovh.
There is no sunrise: the extension is fully open! This is first
come, first served!

It is an extension after the liberalisation of
generic domain names decided in June 2008 by ICANN. OVH is
1st registry accepted by ICANN as part of this liberalisation
including a business model (very) innovative.

The domain name .ovh is free as long as it is
hosted on our network and as soon as
you want to host it outside of our network it will cost £1 + VAT a year.

Given the significant start-up costs associated with the procedure
ICANN ($100,000) and operating costs of root DNS servers
(the root servers should be hosted in all 5 continents)
Will we ever be profitable on this project? It is our
main activity (hosting) which will finance this project.
It should be the right to have at least 1 free domain and should be discussed
and registered at the United Nations Charter human rights. The
right to a digital identity is as important as the right to equal opportunities.
OVH believes that every individual in the world should
have at least 1 domain name free for life to exist on the web! So why not. Ovh?

With this project, OVH also wishes to denounce the huge money that runs
domain names. The new extensions that are created
at this time are accepted to generate the income of companies
who make a "copy / paste" of an infrastructure to another and do
no innovation. With. OVH is about to break
this market trend and propose another model for other
values!

Packaging. With your domain name you get
DNS management, free SSL certificate for the first
year, 100 email accounts and hosting 30 GB and unlimited
transfer.

OVH package also offers a dedicated server: if you registrar a 100 OVH domain names
your dedicated server is renewed for 1 month (at our
expenses and any type of server!).
