Thanks for the suggestion. I ran the script there and got this output:

I can only assume that my server is already up to date (I ordered it about a week ago). Mails are still not being sent

I won't be using the server to send email except from the website (using mail()/sendmail), because domain based email (name@url.com) will be handled by an inhouse exchange server. Does that mean I could strip back some of the mail-related stuff on the server, which might remove this problem?

Did you ever get this problem solved? I've got a newly-installed Release 2 (Gentoo 2006) RPS and it's not sending mail either

How would I restart the mail server?

I've tried /usr/local/portage-ovh/mail-mta/qmail-ovh/files/qmail.initd start which gives me a permissions denied error message.

I've also tried /usr/local/portage-ovh/mail-mta/qmail-ldap/files/qmail.initd start which gives me the following error message:

Code:

looks like the mailserver is not started. It definitely was a couple of days ago but now I cannot connect either.

I think I may have found why I cannot receive external email. When I did ran some diagnostics on my MX records for my domain it came back with this:

"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 87.98.141.225:25"

I'm not sure how to correct this, any advice would be appreciated.

I've somehow managed to get the sendmail to work. I'm not entirely sure how I did it, but I tried updating clamav and then restarting clamd.

I still can't receive email through qmail, although I do seem to be able to send from my sqwebmail

Hi guys,

I'm unable to locate a qmail conf file. I've run locate qmail. which has come back with:

/usr/local/portage-ovh/mail-mta/qmail-ovh/files/qmail.initd
/usr/local/portage-ovh/mail-mta/qmail-ldap/files/1.03-r4/qmail.schema
/usr/local/portage-ovh/mail-mta/qmail-ldap/files/qmail.initd
/usr/local/share/qmailadmin/html/mod_dotqmail.html
/usr/portage/eclass/qmail.eclass
/var/qmail/man/cat5/dot-qmail.0
/var/qmail/man/cat7/qmail.0
/var/qmail/man/man5/dot-qmail.5
/var/qmail/man/man7/qmail.7

This is so frustrating I did a clean install this morning, but still can't send email.

Sorry I didn't see your reply when I posted. I've reinstalled clamav now but it's still not working. I'm not sure how to disable it right now, but I'm hoping google will help me find out

You might want to look into dspam instead of spamassassin as this has clamav built in, afaik.
Hi, I've removed ClamAV but I still seem to be getting the same error. This is what I get after I removed it and restarted apache:

Code:
Apr 8 19:23:08 r21703 X-Qmail-Scanner-2.01st: [r21703.ovh.net123921138876711569] clamdscan: corrupt or unknown clamd scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status -1/16777215

hmm...

run a few mailservers in my time I know every distro is a little different but I don't seem to see anything sendmail or postfix ish there at all.

Is there anything listening on port 25?

Can you try: telnet localhost 25

you should receive some sort of 220 message then just type quit

Scratch that you do have a server listening on 25

I just sent an email to postmaster@v3 whatever from the command line all looked fine so I would guess it is the clam antivirus.

I have had similar problems before using virtualmin where the clamav borked the whole chain

You should be able to find something in the config to disable its use. Doing that and then giving the mailserver a restart may well be a good starting point.

I wouldn't try removing it at first though, it could cause services to fail to start.

I've removed \r\n and replaced it wich just \n and retried sending, still no luck receiving any emails.

I've had a look in mail.info and it seems to show the timestamp for when I logged into webmail. I've also looked in mail.err and I can see a bunch of Qmail scanner errors:

Code:
Apr 8 17:28:58 r21703 X-Qmail-Scanner-2.01st: [r21703.ovh.net123920453776730619] clamdscan: corrupt or unknown clamd scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 512/2
Something similar also appears in mail.log:

Code:
Apr 8 17:28:58 r21703 X-Qmail-Scanner-2.01st: [r21703.ovh.net123920453776730619] clamdscan: corrupt or unknown clamd scanner error or memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 512/2
I've uploaded the various log files here:

mail.info
http://www.vs3-clan.co.uk/spunky_temp/mail.info

mail.err
http://www.vs3-clan.co.uk/spunky_temp/mail.err

mail.log

Thank you for taking the time to help me resolve this issue.

Yes, I do. The following came installed by default:

qmail
vpopmail*
courier-imap
qmailadmin
spamassassin
clamAV

I've actually tried to configure it to send via SMTP but again had no luck. I've also tried logging into SqWebMail to test if I am able to send/receive email from my domain with an email account I created, spunky@vs3-clan.co.uk. Unfortunately nothing happens. The email looks like it's being sent from spunky@vs3-clan.co.uk but it's never received.

I'm beginning to think the installation is corrupt, but I'm not yet skilled enough to determine if this is case.

Thank you in advance for any further advice.

Hi all,

I've recently ordered an RPS 1 package to use for hosting my website http://www.vs3-clan.co.uk. I've installed phpBB3 successfully and for the most part everything is working correctly.

Unfortunately the board is not sending any emails, whether they are registration emails, board based emails, or mass emails. Also, there are no error messages displayed in the phpBB3 logs.

I've created the following php script to test if the phpmail() function is working:

PHP Code:
$headers "MIME-Version: 1.0" "\r\n";
$headers .= "Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8" "\r\n";
$headers .= "To: Spunky "\r\n";
$headers .= "From: Vs3 "\r\n";
/* Mail it */
if (mail("spunkster21@hotmail.com""Test mail""Test mail"$headers)){print "Mail sent";}else{print "Mail not sent";}
?>
When I run this script on my server I get the "Mail sent" message, but no mail arrives.

I've been searching google for two days and have yet to find a solution to this problem. Admittedly, I am a Linux newbie but I would really appreciate some help with this.

Many thanks,

Spunky
