yup, I am cool with the kernel upgrade but was wondering if anyone has had any luck with this before on OVH's machines?

That is your job to install a kernel which can use modules.
It is not OVH job to provide these, as this is no managed hosting.
Google about how to compile your own kernel, or get a kernel from your distribution you are using, which in most cases are are able to do modules.

Most of you are probably aware that module's are not supported in the OVH default installation.
we are trying to encrypt a partition using the method here

What I am wondering is if anyone who has upgraded their kernel has been able to encrypt a partition as if its not possible then will regrettably have to look for another host.
