How much RAM is available on 4GB SP BestOf?

Yep, that's on any x86-based system - like you said, for the IO memory mapping.

On my SP with 4 Gb I get 3.84 Gbytes usable memory to be precise. That's using 2.6.24-5 x64 (Lenny/Proxmox). I'm sure you could hack another few Mbytes out of it, but I'd like to keep things stable

If you use a 32bit OS then you may not be able to access all of your ram... however it should be closer to the full 4GB as the servers have fewer other things to address (graphics card memory etc)..

If you choose a 64bit OS then you are fine.
I should have said, I am using 64-bit OS on my home PC (Suse Linux 11 64-bit). But I have 32-bit IO devices - the disks for example are connected via IDE and PCI, so they need some of the 32-bit address space for their use.

I know that seems a silly question.

But I just installed a new motherboard and RAM on my PC, taking it to 4GB of RAM; and to my surprise, there is only 3.2GB of RAM available to the operating system.

Going to the Googles, I got a "duh!" ... my PC uses PCI, which has 32-bit addressing. So some of the address space is reserved for PCI.

Would the same apply to OVH servers with 4GB RAM?
