My backup systems backup all sorts of things that make recovery easier. I just dump all of /etc/ for example.

Also though quite a few of my things are inside some chroot so they can run with just a copy paste.

It's all about having bash scripts that install everything automatically.

I don't think I've ever set up a server from scratch with lighttpd (26GB worth of sites), php, mysql, bind, postfix and dovecot in an hour before. Thats what happens when your bed is so inviting.
