Some sort of ants crawling around in the heatsink most likely

Just got an update - and tested, and it appears to be working now.. (though.. would be interested to know what it was that was the problem)

Hopefully they give me some sort of update today... on day 4 now... since first reporting speed issue (I reported it when in rescue mode as well) but was told must be me.

Yup - thanks Neil.. i just got email on that now.. They can do anything they want with the box (reimage, etc) since its in the same state as original (well.. i do hope they don't wipe out the USB drive though..but it wouldn't be the end of the world)

Hi

Yes your email did go through OVH.com as you are a FR customer, I see a ticket has been opened today by a French tech and the technicians will now look into the issue.

I appreciate the help here from everyone, and from Neil / UK OVH; but, i do wish someone would respond to my contact message that i entered in my OVH Manager (is there a France contact I'm supposed to use, as I'm through ovh.com.. not ovh.co.uk)

ethtool will show a more details report, but will use the same data.
So no RX/TX errors on your end.

MIODude

I had to install it just now (ethtool) - getting no stats available.. I'm assuming it will collect stats after a period of time?

ifconfig shows

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:621512 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:136481 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:202375218 (193.0 MiB) TX bytes:10647019 (10.1 MiB)
Interrupt:19 Base address:0x2000

no errors.. is that just as good as ethtool for results?

yonatan

do you have any RX errors ?
ethtool -S eth0 | grep err

could be a bad card/switch/cable.

Speed to that test.bin file was good. I'm still having speed issues accessing anything else.. Its like the external access to the internet is completely throttled. I have 2 servers in a luxembourg data centre.. connections to them via wget don't exceed 3 KB/s.

I put that testfile on rapidshare.. and did wget http://rapidshare.com/files/268794721/testfile.bin (i marked it as trafficshare so it won't require premium account or cookies)... I know you guys don't control the internet, but if I can download that file from other servers fine, and from home.. i shouldn't have issues to the OVH box..

Code:
wget http://rapidshare.com/files/268794721/testfile.bin

Pings from home to have the following results (i didn't paste the replies in here, but could PM if you wanted)
Packets: Sent = 46, Received = 35, Lost = 11 (23%
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 116ms, Maximum = 120ms, Average = 117ms

Pings from OVH server to anywhere else seem good.. but, still slow downloading from anywhere except that one test file spot you gave me.

and - to reiterate.. last week before i left for vacation on Friday, everything was good.. Saturday it was shutdown due to hack. I've reimaged and have yet to install anything.. just did an apt-get upgrade

right now - i can't use the server in this state..

Speed on mine is looking ok.
I might have reported something wrong.
Looks like that for updates only, I connect to centos.org, and not to mir1.
But for the rest, all is coming from mir1.

Anyway, mine is back to normal, or maybe was never affected

I checked this morning, and still having same issues.. I can't even type in SSH as it pauses too much, and kicks me out. The slow response started once the server was put in rescue mode, and has continued through the reimage.

My first reimage i had tried ubuntu 8.04 desktop, but the screen hung too much so I had to revert to the non-gui.. I couldn't even move the mouse around longer than 3 seconds.. If it ends up being due to the network issue, i'll probably reimage again to unbuntu (I'm on Debian 5.0 right now)

I think he meant he can get 13.3MB/s with another OVH server from mir1

I also have slow speeds to the mir1 OVH mirror server.
Updating CentOS at the moment with 25 kb/s

i'm getting slow response everywhere actually.. not just OVH mirror, but other servers via wget as well... something isn't right.. and I'm not being ddos'ed directly or something.. i'm the only IP address connected to the server

edit: can't even stay connected to ssh.. i get disconnected periodically due to connection timeout

Andy

If its an OVH mirror, try mirror 2 since that often has little load compared to the first.

Just me?

File from 100 Mbit server.. where i used to get 4-5 MB/s

size.. 20 MB file speed .. 2.39K/s eta 2h 22m

also - when i do an apt-get upgrade from the OVH ftp servers.. i got

Fetched 14.6MB in 19min7s (12.8kB/s)

This is on my server that i just reimaged.. i had the same speed issues trying to FTP my data.. i ended up giving up because it would take weeks.

(I did open a ticket for investigation as well through my OVH panel..)
