This is great news, and thank you for letting us know how long server deployment is to take during this peak time

Hello,

2 weeks ago we launched the 2008 reload range. The range is a total success on all markets where Ovh proposes these offers: FR, BE, CH, DE, UK, PL and ES. Indeed, the range of servers are in even higher demand in terms of price and supply. The hidden aim: we open a new datacentre (DC2 in Roubaix) in about two months with an initial capacity of 100,000 dedicated servers. End of 2007, we changed plans and we took up a new challenge: sell 100,000 servers wthin 2 years instead of 3 years. So we worked hard for 4 months to prepare the 2008 reload range. We tested the new 45nm Intel processors. We tested the new equipment, new motherboard, new discs. We developed EcoSalle to reduce the power consumption of the datacentre itself. We have stalled the production on our target of 4,000 servers per month. And we were ready to launch the offer.

After 2 weeks of life of the reload range, we have not yet balanced supply and demand. This means that you're ordering more than we expected. Therefore, we had to revise the organization of the workshops manufacturing the servers to double the number of servers produced per month, we hired new employees who started this week. We are waiting for some parts that come from China, Europe and the USA. Exceptionally, everything arrives by plane instead of by boat. We also have a lot of problems with the Intel motherboard that did not pass successful tests after production. Therefore, as we produce racks full of servers, the test failure on a server means that a full rack is on hold from being transported from the production area to the datacentre. All these small problems explain the delay in deliveries this week. Currently, we supply in a minimum of 3 days (Except for the servers that are ready in 1 hour). The maximum is between 3 days and 7 days (depending on the offer). The average is 5 days. And this is not good. We want to get back as soon as possible to 1 hour, because this is how it must work at Ovh.

Next week, especially after Wednesday, we should begin to catch up the delay on all servers. We will receive equipment we lack, we will review the pretests of motherboards before mounting, and the 2nd assembly line is fully operational. And then 4-5 days later, we should balance supply with demand, then progressively reduce the delivery time.

It is long. As a result, we have reviewed our manufacturing plans especially for SP / EG / MG / HG then Kimsufi XXL, then Kimsufi XL, then Kimsufi. And therefore the 2 manufacturing lines work for the SP / EG / MG / HG. Then from Wednesday next week, we will produce in parallel SP / EG / MG / HG and Kimsufi.

The summary:

The delay on the SP / MG / HG ranges will probably caught up today or tomorrow.
The EG Monday / Tuesday.
On the Kimsufi XXL range, we should catch up everything by the end of next week.
On the Kimsufi and Kimsufi XL range :
- Today: at least 3 days, maximum between 3 and 7 days, average 5 days
- Until Wednesday: the delay will increase at least 4-5 days
- From Wednesday: the delay will begin to decline
- Next Wednesday we should be at 3 days minimum.
- Wednesday next week: the delay is caught up, deliveries in 1 hour

The manufacture of servers running 6 days out of 7. The datacentre runs 24 / 7. So we also deliver at night and Saturday / Sunday.

Regards,

Octave
