I know it's supposed to be slower but 8 hours is insane.. on the raw hardware it would take 10 minutes?
It's virtualised that's why. Everything that runs inside it is slow, even Windows.

I did but the vKVM was super slow with whatever I ran in it... no idea why.

I had quite a few issues getting grub working properly... half of my trouble was the sheer slowness of it though. The initial install of ubuntu server took like 8 hours just for the basic setup. Something wrong with the vKVM perhaps? Anyway it's all done now.

Ubuntu Server 9.04 x64. I know it works in vKVM.. that's why I chose it.
Which OS would that be? Anything challenging?
