One issue is that Asperger's hasn't been widely tested for until recently (90's). So many 25+ year olds may have been diagnosed as having ADD or similar and be treated accordingly, or they have adapted themselves in such a way that their actual Asperger's traits have become minimized (in other words: learned to live with it). To have a proper diagnosis as an adult is difficult because of these reasons. If you need more info, check out http://www.nas.org.uk/.
