Are there any log entries as to *why* it crashed? Have a look in the file "/var/log/syslog" or "/var/log/messages" for example.
It's quite large for some systems, so it helps to know around what time this happened (each line starts with the date / time) -- or search on the error message.
This can help you figure out what needs to be fixed, otherwise the answer will simply be "Don't know, format and re-install everything".
