The offer is simple to use and quick to deploy. A few clicks, and less than 1 minute to start using it. A few more clicks and your Cloud evolves. Why? To fit closer to your actual needs. Why? To avoid an oversizing or undersizing of your facilities with long, complex operations to make it evolve. At the level of cloud, the evolution is fully integrated in "upgrade" as in "downgrade". We can even say that it's almost throwaway ... We start 100 or 1000 Cloud in a few seconds, then we clear 999 Cloud 2 hours later ... no commitment, no setup fees.

You pay a fixed cost for the resources you have booked. No charge for use. The costs are predictable and displayed in the manager from the day, week, month and also on time. You move your infrastructure and you check how much it will cost you per hour. You can change as many times as you want and whenever you want. That's Cloud Computing for us.

The presentation of the offer is an extremely simplistic view. We accept the criticism saying it does not provide "enough" information. This is normal since the goal is not to inundate you with data sheets, but to provide an affordable solution in 3 clicks and 30 seconds. Click click and you hear the engine going up in the towers ... the offer is made emotional thanks to the new 100% ajax manager.

In short, OVH continues to offer all that we offer and we have already started a new page of offers related to Cloud Computing in step with the existing offerings. We can even say we take the risk. Yes. We want to question how to consume the resources of a datacentre. Our Cloud responds to this new way of using resources without constraint and a price ... "crazy" at £0.01 ex. VAT/hour

For us, Cloud Computing is offering a "break" from everything that has been proposed up there.

You be the judge. To adopt ... or not.

Billing will begin at midnight ... So it is still free ...

I don't get it at all!! The price doubles when the ram doubles????? I mean I can understand charging for more hard drive space, but that much for RAM?? So for an extra 1 GB of ram it's gonna cost you £34 a month extra???? That's £406 a year, or enough to buy 18 sticks of DDR3 1GB memory.? It's just wrong. (90 Euros a year for an extra 256MB of ram)

Maybe if you get a soundcard fitted the price will quadruple?

I mean for the same price as a OVH 512MB RAM cloud, with 5GB of disk space you can get a physical server with 2GB Ram, 250GB Hard drive space?
Only positive for cloud is the better CPU speeds.

I thought the whole promise of the cloud server would be cheaper servers and making your datacentre more productive and supplying more customers, so more profit? Instead, you've got virtual servers that cost more than physical servers. Who in the right mind is going to buy one!?

Also 1 euro doesn't equal one pound. It's not fair to charge us more.

Sort out your pricing please OVH
Although I must say the points idea is pretty good.

The cloud is more designed for people who need to test applications on a large infrastructure and need it for just hours, not a month. It's also for people who need the flexibility of upgrading at the push of a button and not having to move servers or load balance them, etc.

it's normal. you don't need "cloud computing" with payement
"per hour". but a "long terme" solution like the dedicated
servers are. your conclusion is right: it's not for you

cloud computing will be very interesting for the "big"
infrastructure with load balancing, sql, nfs, mail-out,
jabber, java & co. and the elastic changes of the resources
you need. +100 cloud, -40 cloud, +20 etc.

our cloud isn't a "vps"

Looks excellent, but too expensive .

Not the usual OVH pricing. Think what you could get from the Kimsufi range or standard OVH range for a similar price and compare it to this.
