Why should I create a hosting support channel on a gaming irc network?
You should do it on quakenet :P

I "created" a channel on efnet.
If you want to join:
irc.efnet.org
#ovh
Mirc link
You can make Eggdrops or mIRC bots that can respond to commands in IRC so like service statuses and news can be broadcasted quickly without having to check forums etc.
I think that if they are busy they should hire people specifically for online support..
IRC would be helpful but it would seem the support staff are busy enough as it is.

It could be good but people may not like the "openness" of the support method. EG they might want it to be more personal rather than an open channel for all to see.
