A VPN adds a little extra overhead, not a whole lot. The only drawback would be the extra latencies it can add (so you could end up being fragged before you had time to respond ).

In theory yes, on windows server install I have tried this successfully using Logmein's Hamachi to do just this.

ok I just wanted to know something. myself and some friends have an old game but it's multi player lan based only. My question is can I set up a vpn on my server so my friends can join my lan sessions?
