currently its running on an EG MAX (09) and SP BF (10) , i need this new AMD so i can balance the load better ...the site loads quite slowly until ill put into the mix another machine.

You really need to ask the French support, but they some of the oldest orders so I would expect them to be delivered in the 20% tonight.

They did sell very fast though.

There's a huge backlog. It's no surprise they didn't advertise it.

I did ask about this before, if i was to upgrade to a better server would they take the current HDD and move it, they said no but it would be so simple to do this, but we can't expect everything I suppose

You're entitled to express your opinions, and like I always say we are listening. But on this last point you should really address the appropriate forum.... forum.ovh.ie.

As for support... http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4642

fozl,

As a side note, while I've always seen excellent replies/support in the forums; it is the direct support that we all have massive issues with reliability, quality of service or quality of help.

Jon.

Good point RS, however, the setup fees have stopped me from upgrading several times and just keeping what I have.

Hell, I'd settle for reasonable processes for "non trusted" countries.

fozl, not harsh at all. Completely grounded in reality. I've been using dedicated servers for slightly more than a decade now and I have yet to experience anything like OVH anywhere else in the dedicated world. While that may seem like a complement on the face of it, it is not. Why?

- Setup fees that surpass the monthly cost of some servers
- No exclusion of setup fees for those like us that don't turn over servers often
- Support on failures that doesn't involve taking weeks of the customers time
- Nearly argumentative ticket support

It's great and all that you announce great new things every few months; but it is also blindingly apparent to long time customers that you keep coming up with new things without fixing or bolstering the core operations, like support and proper sales (or the fabled reseller system).

I use OVH because I need to, not because I want to. I really wish it wasn't the case as in reality the offerings are great. It's just the support that lacks, and the insane requirements to go direct if you are in my country.

Is that supposed to surprise you?

With the way they have industry non-standard setup fees, they'd rather have turnover rather than nice stable customers. They prefer the customer work for them, rather than they work for the customer. Their entire process oozes that; which is a shame.

Yeah how I was thinking was the user would have to accept that the disks would be wiped, but a good backup and restore would be ok, just then it would save on changing IPs etc, and having to go through the whole pointless terminate and re-order just to get an upgrade.

Thelen
01-10-2010, 09:48
Yea we've got a tonne of servers that are being charged exactly the same as the new servers albeit minus the upgrades. Unfortunately it isn't really that easy to upgrade HDD, but the RAM certainly could be.

HandsomeChap
01-10-2010, 09:04
The funny thing is, (although probably not for yourselves) once you let them return to ovh they will just upgrade the memory and drives and re-sell them as xx10 anyway.

Perhaps OVH could create an 'upgrade' package allowing certain packages which are only extra memory/disks to be upgraded (as they will be anyway) then returned to clients for a small fee (IE smaller than 50 for pointlessly letting a package go and rebuying a new one)?

DigitalDaz
30-09-2010, 23:40
In exactly the same boat, got a new server last month, thankfully its not really being used so I will just let it go, in my case the extra 50 setup for a new one is worth it for the extra RAM.

Shame I couldn't just pay 50 for an extra couple of gig to be stuck in, would save the server turnover too.

We ordered one of the MG Hybrids a few weeks back, it's been awesome ever since we've had it

I noticed a few days ago the website has been updated and the spec has changed quite a bit.

The memory seems to have risen from 16GB to 24GB and the two Sata drives have gone from 2X750gb's to 2X1500gb drives.

Is there anyway to upgrade to this newer server? As it's only a few pounds a month dearer heh.
