Are there current problems?

I have generally only ever been doing a single file at a time anyway. When I have done batches of smaller files (like when I put phpbb3 on there many months ago) it had no troubles whatsoever. I will check these settings you suggest though

Already set to 2.

Try this from within FileZilla:

File -> Site Manager -> (select your OVH FTP server) -> Select the "Transfer Settings" tab at the right side -> Tick/check the "Limit number of simultaneous connections" and set the "Maximum number of connections" to 2.

The thing is that FileZilla will transfer files synchronously, meaning that for each file it downloads or uploads, it will open a new connection to the FTP server. OVH generally limits the amount of connections to the FTP servers to 2 per IP (to prevent a single IP/server from hogging the server).

Sorry I somehow missed that post.

It is not always Response 421 but is the majority of the time.

Seems weird I can access and browse fine but not upload.

Also happening from two completely different locations so for both to be blocked or restricted but be a royal PITA. Plus the fact it very occasionally works fine.

Sending email now as doubt it's best to put those details openly.

Plus the post in General about slow ftp in general, pointing at a suspect known issue...

Hi

Don't see any email from you asking for what we need:

"Send us an email to customersupport@ovh.co.uk with your nic or domain name and your IP Address."

It maybe your IP is being blocked or restricted.

This is really starting to annoy me now!!!!! Surely I shouldn't be paying full rate for hosting I can't upload to 90% of the time!!!!!! What do I do about an official complaint?

OK seems I spoke to soon.

Can now log-on, browse to my desired directory but as soon as I actually attempt to upload a file I start getting the likes of:

Status: Delaying connection for 5 seconds due to previously failed connection attempt...
Status: Resolving address of ftp.perso.ovh.net
Status: Connecting to 213.186.33.207:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 421 There are too many connections from your internet address.
Error: Could not connect to server

See other people complaing about ftp speeds and load. Guess it could be related to that, correct?

Well last two uploads have both been successful on first attempt. Either any problem that existed has been solved, or it was a buggy update to the FTP program I was using as did update before latest attempts.

Thank you all for trying to help me.

are you using cpanel?

if so it might be the ftp session control that might be doing it, just cancel all the sessions and then ftp should work

mines does it all the time and im not on ovh servers

Send us an email to customersupport@ovh.co.uk with your nic or domain name and your IP Address, maybe you ISP routes your data through a proxy or something.

Never had problems in the past or with other FTPs (although this is the only one I have access to at the moment.) Been trying for the last two hours to get a file uploaded now! Know it's not my connection as all browsing and downloading through http is working fine yet I am getting problems even connecting to my server.

Uploading may be free but test downloading, or providing a link and having people download it to then be told it's corrupted, isn't.

Oh and haven't tried a different computer. As said never had problems with this one in the past. Unfortunately don't have FTP rights on my computer at work. Have got my old desktop just about up and running (still a bit unstable) as a living room media server though so might be able to try that...

Sorry, missed that when I scanned the message.

Have you tried doing the same upload on a different computer altogether?

I believe only HTTP downloads consume traffic...

anyway, uploading is free :P

Connection is generally pretty secure with my ISP, although my speeds are poor. But it is also happening over two completely different ISPs, my home one and my work one. Although my home is not the best connection and work's wireless isn't exactly great...

Latest file was actually corrupt somehow and after re-uploading with very slightly different name and having downloaded original and tested the faulty one was very slightly larger, whereas having three of the files in the .zip corrupted you would of thought that was indication that it hadn't quite completed and expect it to be smaller...

Hi kazakore

I have checked todays FTP logs for your domain name and everything looks fine, details good and the files are received.

Are you sure the problem is not with your ISP?

Still not working! Uploaded a zipped sample pack for a production competition yesterday and it took five attempts to look like it had fully uploaded (stupidly didn't double check.) Just been told file is corrupted as it hadn't fully uploaded (and now confirmed myself while typing.)

This really is also wasting loads of my bandwidths as the ftp/site isn't working properly!

Thanks for the reply.

This one seems to imply maintenance on all hostings:
http://status.ovh.net/?do=details&id=710

None of them seem to have much information in Details though.

perso = 20gp plan correct?

Having some troubles today but I know my wireless connection at work is far from perfect so may not be in any way related... Done after a few attempts.

Sounds like sessions opened when you retried the uploads persisted. They die after about 15 minutes anyway iirc, restarts should also clear them.

Not sure why you have the problem uploading in the first place, check when did this happen here: http://status.ovh.net/

Perhaps during incidents FS#4744 through FS#4750? (except FS#4745)

Working now.

Sorry, I would usually give at least an hour or two or retrying but been having quite a stressful day. Nothing big but lots of small things, you know how it is...

What does the "Response: 421 There are too many connections from your internet address." actually mean anyway?

Having serious issues with FTP! Not updated my site for ages but trying to connect and upload a fairly large file now and it just isn't happening.

Initially connected, started uploading, then hung. Then repeated failed connection attempts "Response: 421 There are too many connections from your internet address." which makes no sense to me!

Tried closing and repopening my FTP Client (FTPZilla) and on about 10th attempt logged back in but transfer wouldn't even start before hanging!

What is going on?
