I see it more as a solution where you buy a thin client, then use it for a 10+ years without having to upgrade them, except for the remote desktop server(s). Plus they're all centrally managed and eat very little power compared to a 250W+ desktop.

Desktops are generally "old" a few months after they're bought Unless you do gaming or other intensive graphics (video editing, etc), then I think a thin client is great as a workstation.

Thin clients always struck me as being a little pointless. They're going to cost you £250-£300 a pop anyway, so why not just buy a desktop for the same amount?

3.5" motherboard, Atom N270 fanless (1.6Ghz). Attach it to the bottom of a 3.5" SSD, add some power and voila
SSD will defeat the purpose of a storage box .. , maybe ill just buy one of those home SAN devices... it should do the trick wouldn't it ?

for sure ill get more, from now on , ONLY SSD.

I took an old P4 made it a storage box hooked it up to my cisco, laptop is SSD.

not much storage space .. but i don't need that much ... i got about 1.8TB~ of space for all of us at home here .. great setup!

honestly i'm thinking about replacing the P4 with a fanless ATOM ... so it will be more quiet.

which board you guys recommend for an ATOM ? (fanless )
