Hi Marks,

Thnx for your reply.

The SMTP server is hosted by OVH. The domain in question is registered with OVH and resides on a shared hosting environment at OVH.

I still do not know why the smtp server on port 25 does not work. If I find out, I'll let you know. If someone else knows, please let me know!
where is the SMTP server that you use located? is an OVH smtp server or it's somewhere else?

Well,

the reactions are overwhelming

But anyway, I did not succeed at first at all. With assistance of the (I have to say: at first not so willing French helpdesk, but on the second day I was helped in a far more friendly way, thumbs up) I've checked the proper functioning of the PHP mail() function, which worked flawlessly.

After installing Contact Form 7 instead of Formidable, no success either. What *did* the trick, was to supply the SSL-version of the smtp server, together with the appropriate port. So not the smtp.mydomain.com, port 25, but the ssl server that was mentioned in the installation email I got, together with the ssl port number.

Testing via the WP SMTP Pro plugin finally went well, as well as the form on the site.

Hope this can be of some help for others too!

Regards,

Tom

Hi,

This morning I've installed, via the Manager, WordPress 3.2 (and updated it to 3.2.1). Besides that, I've installed a contact form plugin (Formidable, which I've installed on various other sites with no problem, but not on OVH Shared hosting).
However, the contact form is not sending out any emails to me. Bit of googling learned that I had to install the WP SMTP Pro plugin, to provide the name of the smtp server, provide some authentication etc. All those steps however do not work. This is what I get when trying to send a test mail:

The SMTP debugging output is shown below:
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)
SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

When I go to the Manager and go to the History of emails (WEB), I can see this:

ATTENTION : This page concerns anly messages sent from CGI/PERL/PHP scripts.
Messages sent form POP account won't appear
To clear the messages, you need to ask for blocking them.

Account Status
Status : Messages accepted

So, it seems to me that I SHOULD be able to send emails from my website, right? Or wrong?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanx in advance,
Regards,
Tom

EDIT: sending and receiving messages from my own mail client works without a problem
