On most of our systems /etc/motd is created at boot time to reflect possible changes in kernel version. Check in /etc/rc.local for that script.
usually is /etc/motd. something is going on there, but do the changes and lock the file after that: chattr -i /etc/motd . good luck.
Hello. need a lil advice. normaly i alter all /etc/motd , /etc/issue files to show my own message when i login to the servers
but for some reason or another they wont change. i alter them from ssh login. reboot the server and they are back to defualt. Now normaly they change without any drama's, but on a current server i just got they wont, after reboot the go back to the original state!
is there somthin im overlooking?
ps / OS = CentOS 5
