If it had been up a while it could possibly have been doing a fsck on the disks

Might be doing hardware tests, as it knows it didn't shutdown correctly.

seems there was an issue with the actual hard reboot...
rebooted twice since than with no issues
So it's booted OK now then? If so, check your /var/log/boot to see where the delay is.
and just as i posted... server is pinging lol
i just don't see how the server was running fine, no updates done since last boot and just restarted it.
Now a second intervention has been scheduled but god knows how long it will take :\

Run the tests in the web-interface.
If there is an issue with hardware, report it in the appropriate way (for the server-model).
If there are no faults, backup, re-install..!
