Storing backups

Not off the top of my hat, no. Not on a budget, at least.

I don't trust amazon thanks... I wouldn't mind paying a little for somewhere else. Where-else can you recommend that is cheap?

I'd suggest to increase your options a bit by willing to spend a little. Right now you're limiting your options to a dodgy back-room operation that'll promise TBs of free backup storage, but in actuality will siphon your data off to some Ukranian criminal organization.

Take Amazon Glacier for example. Storage is only $0.011 per GB within the EU (If you don't mind NSA sniffing, it's only $0.01 in the USA for that privilege). 150 GB = $1.65, which is about a quid a month. Data transfer in is free, data out is still reasonable considering its a backup that shouldn't have to be retrieved often.

Yes it would need to be permanent I'm afraid.

Is this for permanent storage? If you only need it for a short time I can let you use one of my servers.

The solutions you're looking for don't give you any sort of data integrity, a free backup might as well not be a backup at all, chances are it won't be there when you want it.

Strongly recommend upgrading to the professional range if backups are this important to you, when they become available again.

Oh.

I thought this was an OVH box, not a kimsufi, as it's posted in the OVH section of the site not the kimsufi part :P

As for suggestions, my suggestion is move to a server that provides you with what you need, or learn how to separate backups and upload them to multiple sites.

3 accounts on mega, should do what you need.

Any other suggestions :P

I think we all have our limits ha.

We could do with him sticking around though as his support is needed

Haha! I've already got Dropbox, which is more than enough for me. Besides, I've lost my trust in OVH. I'll stick to what I have, but no more.

You could also look at Microsoft Azure, no disrespect to yourself but as you are using a KS Azure might be quite pricey for what you are looking for.

Myatu doesn't recommend the OVH service, but I thought I would post the link anyway as it gives you 25GB free, got to be worth a look.

How much storage do you think you need for your backups?

Myatu
29-09-2013, 19:23
Ah. I guess you could use Box.com or Dropbox, but that would be a measure of desperation there then

No I've got a KS 2G. I want somewhere free online to back it up to though :/

Myatu

The server range, ie. Kimsufi, SP, EG, MG or HG

Shought
29-09-2013, 19:17
What is a SP?

Myatu
29-09-2013, 19:16
If you have an SP or better, you should have access to 100GB of FTP storage. If that's not enough, you could get yourself a cheap KS... But as OVH is not taking orders, you could use Amazon or RackSpace for cloud storage (I don't trust OVH's service for this yet - Oles is to wishy-washy with things, so he might decide to cancel the whole thing next week or so... Never know with him).

There is only 1 set of backups. They are not done in days. Its just one set :/ I don't have any room locally for this.

Jasgriff
29-09-2013, 19:13
Cant you save you oldest backups locally and just keep the most recent ones on your dedicated?

Shought
29-09-2013, 18:31
I have nearly filled up my dedicated server due to backups of my sites.

Where is a good place to store these on the internet that is safe and free? Or VERY cheap?

Thanks,
