We're talking network uptime not server uptime. DDoS protection is there to protect the network.

Sorry, I know, simply my professional range servers can't even reach 2 month uptime of hardware due to various network failures, one example is DDOS protection was down (failed) last month on - 7 or 9th of September, if someone from support don't remember, I still do remember and point at topic on webhostingtalk.com website.

Lets do conclusion at OVH today:
- DDOS system still in Beta stage, failed last month even affected this forum.
- Firewall system still in Beta stage, failed on 24 October 2013, 15:54:16 recovered 24 October 2013, 15:56:49 according to pingdom.com
- Control panel - managerv3 - Beta stage, uncompleted and contain bugs
- Control panel - managerv5 - Beta stage, impossible to do anything except topup account with money
- Control panel - https://www.ovh.com/manager/dedicated/login.html (I don't what version and really don't care)- Beta stage, as the control is uncompleted
- Manager Director - Beta stage - don't know how to run huge company as never done before and still think that 200K - 300k customer can be without any official communication or without 30 day notification of contract and change the prices and plans every 2 minutes!

Another thing is, as the mailing list has gone, I assume this DDOS service is in limbo now? It's actually still in beta IMHO, I saw a lot of people getting false positives, etc. Plus, Octave himself, needs to set up "profiles" on the VAC for different services, and since he's not around, I assume some servers are up & down.

my old Kimsufi 2012 has 100% uptime, as I don't use any firewall or DDOS protection:
Uptime: 09:32:24 up 400 days 10:48
Uptime: 07:24:02 up 390 days 8:55

simply proves that their protection is useless and does opposite effect, with this protection people getting blocked or your server get off-lined due to OVH failure to deliver or complete the system.

All servers have the DDOS Protection including your old Kimsufi as it is done at network level, if this server is attacked then the Vac system will be activated.

You can't opt out no. Its there to protect the network not just you. If you want 100% uptime then don't use a single service provider. End of story.

The DDDOS protection is in auto mode, but firewall can be switched off completely.

I had last month downtime due to failure of anti DDOS protection and today 3 minutes due to firewall test.

Hi all,

Today I completed the test, put 1 server behind firewall and had downtime for 3 minutes, as for the rest server without any French "protection".

My recommendation: If you want to have 100% uptime DO NOT USE FRENCH FIREWALL OR DDOS PROTECTION as still beta and undeveloped. As from previous experience they had downtime on French "protection" last month... even forum.ovh.co.uk was offline
