cartwright118,

There is nothing in ftp://ftp.ovh.net/made-in-ovh/release/* that looks like it might be a gentoo image of any age, even if it needed lots of patching to make it current - whatever current Gentoo means to OHV.

Yes - I'm looking for what I would get today if I signed up for a new Gentoo install.

At the end of 2012 when I did just that, I spent about 30 min working out that most of it was from 2010 or before, before I blew it all away and did the install properly. It was far too out of date to update or to use in an internet facing position.

There is a 50Mb distfiles tarball there that might be around the right size but that should be a source tarball with a name like that. I've fetched it anyway. Its also very old.

It looks like I'll need to wait until I can get a new server, since I don't have a spare one I can reset to Gentoo so I can tar it up.

Thank you for pointing out stuff that I had missed.

Not sure how up-to-date they are, but have a look in ftp://ftp.ovh.net/made-in-ovh.

Edit: Oops, didn't see TheBritoid already mentioned that. D'oh!

You have given me an idea though. I may be abe to PXE boot a KVM from OVH's Gentoo, if I knew where it was.

If OVH were selling servers, I could get one for a month, make the images I need by tarring up the live filesystems and saving the tarballs.
That probably won't work. I'm might be wrong, but I think how OVH's boot system works is that the servers are set to boot from some sort of PXE, and receive instructions on what to do. Whether it's boot from local drive, or download an image/kernel off the network. Doing it in a VM probably won't work.

Unless you can find a public address to download OVH's images at, I wonder if anyone knows. They might be at ftp://ftp.ovh.net/made-in-ovh/

OVH uses a custom installation system which I think when the servers check PXE they download a an installer.

You should probably just download the ISOs from the distributions website and give them a try. There are only a couple of changes in OVH's version (e.g OVH's spyware).

I have a 2012 KS8G with Gentoo installed, running a few KVMs.
Yeah - I really need an mSP

I would like to evaluate some of OVH other Linux offerings without destroying my bare metal install in the process. I think this means I need a copy of the OVH image to boot the KVM from.

I don't see a way to get a copy of the image, what am I missing?
