Run your site over http://tools.pingdom.com (which actually is the same thing you'd see using Firebug or Google's Dev tools in Chrome). It should give you quite a number of hints on improving things. I mean, there's 600Kb of javascript being loaded for example...

This is to do with your site's code, not your server. It makes 39 HTTP requests with adblock enabled, and 63 HTTP requests with it disabled. So your advertisements are adding 24 requests to each page load.
