I notice the page has taken off ecc, so I guess that's the answer to that, no ecc-ram in SYS servers

Indeed Trap, indeed!

All this has actually become rather comical for me. I initially stated that I've been looking to get a SYS server for over a month, waiting on a response to the ECC question, but in reality it's more like 5 or 6 months, as of course I've been waiting since when the "sold out" period began.

I am not the only person to have tried getting an answer on these forums with regards to ECC RAM in SYS servers. Take a look:

http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.ph...ll=1#post58584
...same person, still trying:
http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.ph...ll=1#post58586
...oh, now there's me (note the "please" in the last sentence in italics, already proving my despair):
http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.ph...ll=1#post58853
...need I go on?
http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.ph...ll=1#post58915

Now, notice with one of Shimon's posts there that he gets a response from Neil stating that the SYS range have ECC RAM, as per the FAQ:
http://forum.ovh.co.uk/showthread.ph...ll=1#post58804

Ouch.

Also, I came across this post from Oles when he announced the introduction of SoYouStart:

This new CPU is... different. It's Intel C2750, which is an 8 cores/8 threads with VT on 8 cores, instead of 4 cores HT on a Xeon E3. It integrates the AES instructions which enable hardware encryption. It runs at 2.4GHz per core and executes the instructions without having to reorder them like a E3 would. It's expected to run up to 64 GB RAM, ECC of course, instead of 32 GB for E3. The C2750 is different, and that's the thing.
Now, note the "of course"? Why "of course"? Well, of course I expect ECC RAM in a server - who wouldn't? So, why would I expect ECC RAM in a crappy new arch Atom-based box versus no ECC RAM in an E3-based processor box? WTF, seriously?! (Sidenote: He goes on further in that post to mention that a different CPU, a C2550, would surface in December. It didn't...)

Note that with regards trying to get a final answer to my initial question, I have tried: on these forums (twice); via the SYS contact page on the website; tried tweeting @ oles on Twitter (twice); tried DMing Oles on Twitter (did follow one another to allow for this - that is, needless to say, no longer the case); and, finally, my most recent attempt was to the good old OVH customer support address, as a total last-ditch attempt (well, before deciding to post here on the forums again, asking for customer feedback). All of these at differing times, of course!

Anyway, I'm done.

Laughable at best; absolutely piss poor at worst.

Thanks again to all who replied.

@simonski

If you are having trouble getting them to answer such a question, then just imagine what it is going to be like trying to get a support query answered.

According to that link it doesn't even seem particularly good non-ecc ram

Total Width: 64 bits

Many thanks Criot, much appreciated! Confirms my fears and seems the aforementioned forum post wasn't an isolated case

Onwards, methinks.

Thanks again.

I have been desperately trying to discover whether the SYS servers (namely the E3-based servers, i.e. SYS-E32-X) for at least the past month, and am getting nowhere.

I came across this post on LowEndTalk forums which implies there is very much no ECC RAM in the E3-based SYS servers, despite the SYS website displaying otherwise (both on the individual server page and also on the page about SLAs etc). So what gives?

I have gone beyond sheer desperation in trying to get an answer to whether the SYS servers have ECC RAM from OVH themselves, so I ask the OVH/SYS community: Does your SYS E3-based server have ECC RAM?

Use dmidecode -t memory (as root) and "Total Width" should be 72-bits if ECC. Alternatively, the part number listed for a DIMM will reveal all.

Many TIA.

PS: Unsure why but vBulletin keeps reverting the all-caps subject of this thread into lowercase. Lame.
