Thank you very much for your report. The additional bandwidth service it's not yet available on the UK market. It will be taken out from the manager.

Ok

I just found this one.

In OvH Manager when you select your server and look at bandwidth, then think "hey ill order some more" as you do, you click the link and you end up on a french site.

All prices were in euros.

So in effect 2 bugs.

the link was to french page and OMFG they looked expensive

Also do you have any plans to roll out Windows server web 2008 as that has just been released to msdn i believe?

It is very likely that your xorg.conf file doesn't contain the correct driver(s) for the chipset(s) in your system or that your chipset isn't supported by any of the drivers.
You can check for the detected devices in the log file (in most cases /var/log/Xorg.0.log) by looking for lines like:

(--) PCI:*(1:0:0) Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760/
So now how do i configure the Xorg.conf file? This is getting frustrating.

OK - Its definatly the driver
I used the Vesa Driver in my xorg.conf and was able to boot it via startx [KDE not GNOME]
It then allows me to login via VNC [yay!]
BUT..........
After 30 Secs X-Server restarts and im back to square one.

Is it a known problem with this box or am i breaking it?

OS = Fedora CORE 6

Running openarena gaming server , Apache , Torrentflux ,glftpd ,vnc

Am i asking too much?

Should i reboot server?

Should i track down the driver for the video card [then KDE is hardware accelerated and may free up some CPU for VnC]

-=[FIXED]=- Utilise the following "sis" Driver.

Now i have a new problem Shocker

I want to run Startx so i use putty
Startx runs as does VNC

I can then look at my GUI

Spot on

I close putty and VNC closes [crap]

So i use Plink
Same deal -

So my question is "how can i leave a proceess running like startx?" - Solved - i now boot into init 5 [like at home] - its a dirty fix but i needed a solution

Hi guys,

FAO ovh sys admin...

the FreeBSD install is abit well.... "wrong" for lack of a better word.

Partition layout is completely wrong, / is home to /tmp, /var, /usr etc, doesn't contain *nearly* enough inodes.

If anything, the layout specified by sysinstall if you select auto defaults is the most sensible general purpose layout, so I suggest the install is either modified to match that, or newfs is tweaked in the install to provide serious number of inodes.

Inodes were exhausted half way through a buildworld.

I will perform an install via netboot in the meantime, but you should really fix the install.

Thanks,
Joe

I've been looking through the event log on the server and every hour there is an entry containing the following message.

Not listening on any interfaces

There are also entries about UDP.

Is this normal and if so what exactly does this mean?

Firstly;
Release 1 OVH (RedHat 7.2) & Extranet Group Work (BETA) are only available in French Language.

Secondly;
When I ordered my server I got Windows Server 2003, then I thought I would try Linux thinking I could switch back to Windows at any time through the manager.

I have now found out that there is no Windows Server 2003 option in the "Choice of the operating system" section. (I thought this would appear when I moved onto Linux).

The IRC port is blocked by default, put you can just select your IP in the drag-drop list and click on ALLOW.

On the servers where you can have IP-failovers, you could have more than 1 IP on a server, and so choose to allow IRC on one but not another for instance.

with you dedicated server you have 1 IP. It's French IP. With the dedicated
servers like start100M you have 2 IP: 1 French + 1 the country you want: DE, UK,
ES, PL, BE. With SP2008 you have 5 IP: 1 French + 4 ip fail-over (DE or UK or
ES or PL or BE). With HG you have 2 network interfaces so 2 IP French + 2x4 IP
failover. Example of the IP:

~$ host www.ovh.co.uk
www.ovh.co.uk is an alias for ovh.co.uk.
ovh.co.uk has address 87.98.255.34
ovh.co.uk mail is handled by 1 mx1.ovh.net.
ovh.co.uk mail is handled by 5 mx2.ovh.net.

It's based on IP address. The BBC for example put these restrictions in place for a reason.

but is there not a way for ovh to fool google and other sites that the server is based in the uk for users who sign up in the uk?
If OVH could do it then other people would do it too and the BBC wouldn't bother to put these restrictions in place.

To access Google UK type in http://www.google.co.uk/ncr

It all depends on the location of the server and not where the customer is from. The Kimsufi servers are racked in France and therefore when accessing sites through these servers it'll appear as though you're in France.

smethy

yeah i realise that, but is there not a way for ovh to fool google and other sites that the server is based in the uk for users who sign up in the uk?

i know its hardly a huge problem, BUT there are some websites like bbc iplayer wont let non-uk users watch videos: "Sorry, this programme is only available to play in the UK". I'm sure there are lots of other sites which only allow country specific content too.

Google redirects itself based on where it thinks you are, so if the server is in France, that's what you'll get. Not really a bug, and you can force it to UK.

smethy
25-02-2008, 22:05
bugs ive found:

google.co.uk redirects to google.fr, i would have thought that ovh.co.uk would redirect to the uk site.

firefox 2.0.0.12 worked fine for 2 days and a few restarts, now wont start, the process runs for about 10secs then quits, not sure why, wasnt running and plugins or add-ons either.

win 2003 web is only sp1, why not sp2? i downloaded the full installer for sp2 but i get this error when trying to install it:

256mb ram is a little harsh, 512mb should be the default in my opinion.

Regarding the below email contact i received from you:

i'm English, i signed up via the english site therefore contact should be in english, i cannot speak french so i dont know what the above information says, you should get an english speaking person to write emails to uk users.

Hopefully if these issues are addressed i may decide to pay for the server after the 1yr, i'll see how things go.

Ok

Just spent 4 hours trying to set up the kimi as a game server [ in particular openarena]

Now everything was going well - speedy http download of the 250MB file

I installed without a hitch

THEN came the problem

I tried to use VNC to put "myself in the chair" but i got "remote connection refusal" even with correct authentication - i am presuming you have put a
So unable to change the hardware acceleration bar to FULL.
After altering it in the registry i realised that win 2003 is not being helpful - and it was during this stage i noticed that it was using 200MB of the system RAM

So i will be trying again tommorrow with a differnt OS - more than likely ubuntu. [this distro is supported heavily by openarena staff]

Will report back if succesfull

OK, I've a CP bug for you:

OVH Manager > My Invoices > either Invoices per date or per domain > proceed until you find your invoice > click the magnifying glass.

An error comes up, the header in French ('il y a une erreur' then the rest in English) which says 'the invoice can't be viewed here, go to https://www.ovh.com/cgi-bin/gb/order...splay-bill.pl&[removed]'.

If you go to that link it says 404.

Hi,
I sent a support message via https://www.ovh.com/managerv3/beta/s...ort.xsl&csid=0
and i'm in the English panel, but it's sent me a summary in french directing me to a webpage also in french? I don't speak french very well so i have no idea what it says!

My support question was: i've renewed ks353563.kimsufi.com for 12 months as i only applied for one month, so could an admin please changed it to 12 months?
Thanks!

When you select them from the list, which one should I choose if any. (Ready to use Section)

Because I will be looking to reinstall if I can get a free web server like Cpanel.

At the moment I have reinstalled to Ubuntu just to test it out!

Thanks

Chris

Browsers tested;

Firefox 2.0.0.12
Safari 3.0.4
Opera 9.25

When I log into the manager on http://www.ovh.co.uk (OVH tools->Manager on the right hand side) the Manager v3 loads in French. I have to click the logout icon (top right) which bring me to this page https://www.ovh.co.uk/managerv3/logi...guage=fr&csid= and then login selecting English as my language.

Internet Explorer 7.0

When I log into the manager on http://www.ovh.co.uk (OVH tools->Manager on the right hand side) it brings me straight to this page https://www.ovh.com/managerv3/login....pl&language=fr

I havn't had any login problems with Plesk. Although when I installed CPanel I was told I have an invalid license.
