Academic licences can only be used non-commercially. Interestingly, the EULA only allows the OSes to be installed on machines with not just a Windows licence, but specifies it must have a COA!

So I'll have to use heise's guide to install Windows Server since my key is MSDNAA?

Hi

You can add your own windows license to the server. The windows license itself has to be an SPLA key. The installer will use the key which you have provided to activate windows.

But my question is if I can add my own Windows key under the licenses tab and that the install will use this key.

Yes, you should be able to add your licence key and install windows 2012 R2 with it. otherwise you can still manually install it, see signature.

Is it possible to install Windows Server 2012 R2 with my own license?

I'm a student and I've received my own licenses through DreamSpark and I would love to install it on my dedicated machine.
But when I check the available OS on the soyoustart website it tells me I have to pay a monthly fee to run this OS.
