I stopped reading after this line. Standard kernel, used by millions, weak and more problematic than OVH kernel... sure...

installation of ubuntu 14.10 distribution kernel DOES NOT WORK!
Just an FYI: It's possible to install linux from within rescue mode. You have far more control over it this way. For debian/ubuntu debootstrap is what you need.

End of working hours for most of Europe, anyone wondering if any of the issues have been fixed the answer is NO, NONE!

Is it possible to load Ubuntu 14.10 or 14.04 using control panel / distribution kernel ? NO
Is it possible to load CentOS 6.6 using control panel / distribution kernel ? YES, but the system crashes every hour or so.
Is it possible to contact support using tickets ? NO

At least fix the support ticket system, what is this, amateur hour ?! Multi-million dollar company run by incompetents... Management should do a serious cleanup ....

generally speaking, the default OVH kernel has been optimised for our hardware and it's far more stable. The standard kernel from the distribution is potentially more problematic and weak, though I agree that generally speaking, it should work. But again, that's just the kernel taking from the distribution and applied to our servers, so obviously, there can be problems.

When the installation fails, you can relaunch it and check another distribution, or you can leave it and wait for our engineers to check it. For the latter, you'll have to wait, as our engineers are aware of the installations that failed and are pending to be completed. On this intervention, the reason why it failed can be found.

When the problem appears after the installation, after the access codes have been sent, then it'll require you to check why it's failing and provide us logs. After the installation, as the access codes have already been sent, then we can't tell whether the problem is due to customer's configuration or something else.

finally, just to note that SYS server do have slower support than OVH servers. That would be one of the reasons why the response from our side may be a bit delay regarding this.

thanks

PD: we'll look into the sending an email option in the manager. Thanks for the video with that.

UPDATE : I've ordered a new server (same specs, E3-SSD-3) and guess what, installation of ubuntu 14.10 distribution kernel DOES NOT WORK!
This is definitely NOT a hardware issue, please have this fixed ASAP!!!!!!

Here's some proof I am not making any of this up :

In the video below I try to install Ubuntu 14.10 x64, distribution kernel. The installation fails at "Rebooting under fresh system"
https://vid.me/A6x1

In the Video below I install the same operating system, but this time I dont check the 'Use distribution kernel' checkbox :

Just for the lolz, proof that support ticket system does not work either :

Unfortunately, this is no joke, this is OVH. Its highly unlikely its a kernel issue, you may well have a hardware fault. Again, unfortunately, you will have to diagnose the problem yourself, these are self managed servers. Once you have diagnosed it, you will then have to submit a ticket. You may, if you are lucky, managed to get the broken part replaced within a week or so but don't hold your breath.

Good luck and welcome to OVH!

The IP is 94.23.207.14. Here is another fun fact, i managed to install CentOS 6.6 default distribution kernel and guess what, its so unstable it reboots by itself every 10 - 30 minutes.

I am now testing a CentOs 6.6 OVH kernel to see if its stable, if not its probably hardware issue.
Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 default distribution kernel will not run on the server, tried it at least 10 times while ovh kernel does work...

Support tickets still dont work, empty url error...

I need to get rid of OVH kernel and boot into normal ubuntu 14 kernel!! How ?!? I spent almost 2 hours trying to boot default distrib kernel and it doesnt work - server hangs and does not come back online!

Got the server provisioned today, unable to install OS, it hangs on Rebooting with fresh OS and after 10 or so minutes asks to install everything again.

Tried 3-4 times already, no go.

I cant even submit a support ticket, getting a 'Got an invalid (or empty) URL' error !!!

How broken is this control panel ?! I;'ve been an OVH customer for years, even the first manager was not so broken..

EDIT: I tried again using OVH kernel and it seems to have done the trick. BEWARE - UBUNTU 14.04 and 14.10 WILL NOT BOOT IF YOU USE DEFAULT DISTRIBUTION KERNEL!!
